Dec. 10, 2014

This year Mark Moffat took on the after Thanksgiving 15 day trip.

We had a great group of fisherman and want to thank them for being with us.

Our trip started with a bang . An afternoon on the second day of great wahoo fishing. steady action on nice size fish up to 60 pounds.

We then moved down to Clarion and spent a couple days there scratch fishing on 70 to 130 pound fish with a few bigger fish and even a couple of cows mixed in.

The move out to the Bank found a little better grade overall. Still not a lot of chances at fish over 200 but the overall grade was great and challenging.  As the Bank slowed down we moved back in to finish up on the inside and found a little smaller grade fish and really nothing over 200 pounds.  Fish in the mid to high hundreds were. caught and kept the challenge going. We left the island after a couple of days and headed up.

We ended up with a well rounded trip with wahoo and nice size tuna from three different areas.

Way to go guys

Dec. 9, 2014

Good evening folks, we had a good morning with decent action on 60 to 80 pounders with a few better fish in the hundreds mixed in. We didn't really get started until after breakfast because of poor conditions but when things straightened out we had a nice pick. Mark got the last fish of the trip this nice looking 197 pounder.

We are headed up the Li e and it looks like good weather all the way up

Andy Cates

Dec. 4, 2014

Good evening folks. We had a little pick this afternoon on 90 to 140 pound tuna.  Nothing bigger than 150 but nice fish none the less. We will see how it goes tomorrow.

Dec. 2, 2014

Good evening folks. Tough day here today. We had an afternoon savior that got us on the board with 21 fish before dark. Most fish 80 to 130 with one standout 222. The weather is beautiful down here ending the day with 25 tuna

Nov. 30, 2014

Good evening folks we made an afternoon stop and picked up 55 wahoo, and a few for the galley.  That really worked out well.  The guys all had a shot and some great action for about three hours.

We are back on course and headed south . We are going to start at the Island and should be there before daylight day after tomorrow

Nov. 29, 2014

Our eta tomorrow to customs is 745.  Hopefully we can get processed quickly and be at the dock between 830 - 900.  it's good traveling weather now  hopefully it holds up.

Nov. 24, 2014

We had a pleasant crossing over to Cabo San Lucas.  There was even a Captain Margarita sighting, a rare occurrence since this was not a Loftus & Martin trip. Most of our anglers exercised the fly home option that the trip affords.  There are four brave souls riding up the line with us.  The weather has been varying between pleasant and down right rude.  Tonight we are doing the infamous crossing from Cedros to Geronimo and the weather reports aren't looking good.  We are going to take it nice and slow and try to be safe.  I will post an eta tomorrow here and on Facebook when I have a better idea what it will be.

Nov. 19, 2014

Good evening folks. We had a great start this morning with a couple of fish over 200 pounds and numerous fish in the high hundreds. really nice grade this morning.

The afternoon was pretty slow and we have to be selective with what we catch. We have room for about 25 tuna and we want to try to make them count. We will see how it goes tomorrow John Keeler walked away with an accurate Boss extreme 500 for the daily Jack Pot.  He was pumped

Andy Cates

Nov. 18, 2014

Nov. 16, 2014

Nov. 9, 2014

Hi gang,

We fished our way north today in absolute beautiful weather. Although we covered a lot of good water, we did not catch a whole lot of fish. 18 yellowtail, 2 dorado, and 2 wahoo was our fish count for the day. We will fish tomorrow morning before we have to call it a trip.  Wish us luck.

Captain Bill Cavanaugh

Nov. 8, 2014

Hi gang,

We had a very good day of fishing today. The weather was flat calm the entire day and we had steady action on tuna and yellowtail. We started catching fish just before first light and stayed busy the whole day. The yellows were biting on the dropper loop rig and the tuna were hitting on the fly lined sardine. Most of the tuna were around 20 pounds and the yellows averaged 18 pounds. We will be working north tomorrow.  Wish us luck.

Nov. 7, 2014

Hi gang,

Another good day for us on the Red Rooster III. Beautiful weather and steady action on good grade yellowfin tuna. The guys that were finesse fishing sardines with fluorocarbon were having the most success. We are excited about our prospects for today.  Wish us luck.

Captain Bill Cavanaugh

Nov. 6, 2014,

Good morning gang,

We had another great day of wahoo fishing yesterday. Very similar fishing to what we experienced the day before except the weather was much nicer. Every one is stoked and we are currently traveling to our next destination to target yellowfin tuna. Wish us luck.

Captain Bill Cavanaugh

Nov. 5, 2014

Hi gang,

We ended having some great wahoo fishing yesterday. We arrived on scene shortly after lunch and stayed busy all the way til dark. The fish averaged around 40 pounds with a few stand outs pushing 55 pounds. The guys fishing the casting jigs seemed to have the most success although we did land a number of fish on fly lined sardines. The weather was a little choppy but gradually got nicer as the day went on. We have high hopes for today.  Wish us luck.

Captain Bill Cavanaugh

Nov. 4, 2014

Hi gang,

Yesterday ended up being a travel day for us. We had a tackle seminar after breakfast, spent the morning rigging tackle, and looked at an interesting piece water in the afternoon. Unfortunately, we located only a small amount of yellowfin tuna for our efforts. We are continuing south to put ourselves in position to fish wahoo today. Wish us luck.

Captain Bill Cavanaugh

Nov. 3, 2014

Hi gang,

We departed yesterday on our Charkbait sponsored 8-day trip. After putting on a nice load of bait, we cleared Point Loma in the early afternoon. We are currently heading south in nice weather and clear skies. We will be fishing this afternoon to start our trip. The attached picture is of some of the swag handed out by Mark Smith from Charkbait. Wish us luck.

Oct. 30, 2014

Good evening folks. We had a great day traveling up. fantastic weather.  Captain Margarita made a showing in the afternoon.  Stiff drinks for the afternoon .

We may have time tomorrow evening for a stop at Cedros. We will see what speed we make tonight

Oct. 29, 2014

This was the first long trip of the season. Fortunately the weather window was open for us to travel to the Hurricane Bank on a 14 day trip sponsored by Loftus and Martin. We experienced scratch fishing at the Bank averaging 25 tuna a day a few wahoo every day. There were chances at "cow" tuna each day and we picked off about 10 fish up in the 200 pound class range.

The days were long and a lot more work than what we are used to in October but none the less the guys worked at it and put together a fine catch. The grade of tuna varied from day to day . 80 to 180 pounds would be a good estimate.  The wahoo were surprisingly big as we don't see that grade until later in the year.

We are headed home now after a nice trip and looking forward to heading back down and trying the bank again after the great sign of fish we have seen.

Art Caballero with his 244 pound Yellowfin caught on the chunk first thing in the morning

Mel Villalbos holding up his 233 #YFT caught on an Accurate 80 with a Calstar rod on a double sardine outfit

Oct. 28, 2014

Good evening folk, another day of scratch fishing at the Bank. Ending the day with 23 tuna and 9 wahoo. All nice grade again today with a couple of 200 pound class fish mixed in. We are headed up the line tonight and hoping the weather is nice for a least the next couple of days.

Andy Cates

Oct. 27, 2014

Good evening folks. Completely different day here with 30 tuna and 13 wahoo. All the tuna today were 70 to 140 pounds. Maybe a couple of bigger fish lost throughout the day but we will never know.

Andy Cates

Oct. 25, 2014

Certainly better sign this afternoon. More life showed up and we had a chance to pick at better size fish. This afternoon was mostly that hundred plus pound fish with a few 75 pounders mixed in. And one fish up in the 200 pound range.

We will see how it goes tomorrow. 31 tuna and 9 wahoo

Oct. 24, 2014

Good evening folks. We had a long day. One at a time type fishing with a little flurry in the morning and a little flurry in the evening. We picked off a few nice fish with biggest one about 233. We managed to stay interested throughout the day with an occasional better fish mixed in. 28 tuna and a handful of wahoo for the day.

Andy Cates

Oct. 23, 2014

Good evening folks. Tough day today with a fair sign of fish that didn't want to bite No sharks and nice conditions so at least we have that going for us. Not a great first day but the sign brings hope for tomorrow. Biggest fish about 190 caught by Allan Babashof on his new Accurate 30

Oct. 22, 2014

Good evening folks, last day of travel and we will be fishing first thing in the morning. We had a great raffle including two beautiful custom Loftus and Martin Seeker Rods and a couple of nice Okuma wahoo rod and reel combos. We did a group picture and finished getting rigged up for tomorrow

Andy Cates

Oct. 21, 2014

Good evening folks. Not much to report today. A tuna seminar and some rigging.  Hot day today and looks like it will be hotter tomorrow.  Johnny had a another giveaway today after the seminar and we raffled a couple of items.  Nice day really. Wahoo talk tomorrow and a couple Rods and reels to raffle off.

Andy Cates

Oct. 20. 2014

Our first trip down to the Hurricane Bank. Looks like good weather and everything on the boat is running well.

The bait looks good, healthy enough for the hot water . today is a leisure day with odd jobs around the boat, getting things ready for the long trips.

Johnny had a nice give away and looks like more to come tomorrow when we start our seminars.

Oct. 9, 2014

We spent the last two days off shore looking for kelps.  We found a lot of kelps and covered a lot of water for what we caught.   It seemed like most of the kelps we found had just a couple fish on them.  That jackpot kelp eluded us.  Thanks to Sonny Jones for putting together a great trip and all his sponsors; Anglers Center, Pelagic Gear,  Ballyhoo Top Gun lures, Okuma reels, fishing with decker. com, Tiburon, Peter J art, and 5 Star fish processing.

Oct. 6, 2014

It's has been a busy couple of days. We ran inshore ahead if this building storm and trolled this high spot for wahoo.  We managed to get a couple.  The real action was drifting for yellowtail.  We had some nice drifts that really made the day.  That night we made a big move to put us in position for better yellowtail action.

Today was a fun day of drifting on schools of yellow. The guys caught then using just about every method and all kinds of jigs.  We are going to spend the night here and try again in the morning.  Hopefully this system will roll through safely and we can spend the last couple of days offshore.

Oct. 4, 2014

We dedicated our first day of fishing this trip to putting some wahoo aboard.  We managed to have a decent day of scratch fishing.  Most of the stops were for 2-3 fish with a couple more on some stops.  We gathered what we could all day then stopped at dusk to drop off the ashes of one of our fishing buddies, Scotty Pomeray, who recently passed away.  We are headed north east to try and keep ahead of this storm system.  Hoping for some action today.

Oct. 3, 2014

The Sonny Jones 8 day trip is finally here.  We cleared the point with a nice load of sardines from the bait barge and pointed the boat south.  Once the applause died down after my saftey/introduction speech Sonny took center stage for his giveaways and raffles.  There were great prizes from Pelagic, Angler's center, Ballyhoo lures, Peter J art, and Okuma reels.

We are going to do some traveling/tackle rigging and then start fishing.  Here we go!

We had a nice surprise this morning as we pulled up to catch yellowtail and caught wahoo instead.

After the smoke settled we had 19 nice size wahoo for the morning.

We trolled it up and took off and headed up the beach looking and not finding any yellowtail.  Tomorrow we are hoping for better results on Yellowtail but the wahoo were sure a treat

Good evening folks

We had two kelps today that produced good action on nice size dorado.  We called it a trip after the last kelp and started our way home.

It looks like we will be in at about 7:30 in the morning

Andy Cates

Good morning folks

Yesterday we fished up the beach and finished the day at Cedros.  Small grade yellowtail kept us busy throughout the day with one wahoo in the morning

The day before was a fabulous day with wide open yellowfin and a chance at a few wahoo. We caught15 to 30 pound tuna until our arms fell off

Today we are getting a few dorado on kelps . No big kelps yet but we have the whole day.

Sept. 22, 2014

Good evening folks.

Pretty tough day today.

Not much sign at the Island this morning. We headed offshore and found countless kelp paddies for no fish. Winding up back on the shallows in the evening for some great action on smaller grade Yellowtail.  Certainly made the day.

We will be traveling south tonight.

Andy Cates

Sept. 21, 2014

Good evening folks

We had a tough start with no sign of Yellowtail first thing in the morning. We made a 30 mile move south and put together a few drifts to make for a decent afternoon on good grade fish. 18 to  30 pound yellows mostly on the Iron and dropper loop.

Tomorrow we will be at Cedros and then go from there

Yesterday we had a better day. the weather was a little better. Started in the morning with a long drift, and then had a couple drifts in the afternoon on school size yellowfin tuna. It has been hit and miss.  We had a little over 100 YFT.

Today we are at Cortez Bank. Trying something different. See if we can get some BFT. So far we have a got a handful of. The weather is a little better, though still  windy, about 15 knot winds.

Sept. 16, 2014

Hi everyone. We caught 7 yellowtail, 15-25lbs yesterday. We did have to move, because the hurricane is coming up. Moving up  along the beach, and we will be fishing off shore for the next three days.

Today so far, we have caught  a dozen yellows,  nice grade fish  in San Martin. Hopefully it will pick up little more by mid-day.  We will be fishing up Cortez bank. The weather has been very nice, just  beautiful. We will report again soon.

Our last 4 day trip of the 2014 season is all wrapped up.  We had another great drift this morning on that nice grade yellow fin tuna.  There was 8-10 fish going for at least an hour, then 4-5 going all the time for the last couple of hours of the drift. Our guys caught all they wanted and we left them biting.  We spent the last couple of hours of the trip trying for yellowtail, halibut,  and calico bass.   We finished the day off on the anchor with a great prime rib dinner Mike prepared.

Our eta tomorrow morning is 7 am.

Good evening folks
A slower day on the Yellowfin but we did manage to get a few chances at some Jack Pot fish.
It sure seemed like the fish were down today or just off the bite.  Maybe this wind has them off. Hopefully tomorrow

Sept. 5, 2014

We had a nice day here out to the west with really nice Yellowfin and one token nice grade bluefin. The weather was great and looks to be nice the next couple of days. We are going to do this again tomorrow and then take it from there.

The last three day of our summer season has come to an end.  We had great fishing on this school size Yellowfin tuna.  We really covered a lot of water looking for sign of different size or species of fish, but it seemed like we kept catching fish in the same area. Our group really worked well together and it shows in the results.  We will be docking at Lee Palm sport fishers at 7 tomorrow morning.

Sept. 1, 2014

Here we go.  The second trip in our double header of three day trips has started.  We made it out to the tuna grounds for some first afternoon bonus fishing.  We managed to get some fish on the boat but couldn't find any big schools.  The weather is very nice, we will be here tomorrow trying.

Aug. 31, 2014

We are just wrapping up our annual labor day special.  It has been an action packed trip.  I don't think we could have squeezed in any more fishing time.  The style of fishing this trip was a fast pace "run and gun" style that is often associated with yellowfin. They really are a fun fish to try for, usually willing to bite and alway a fight to the end.  We made a play for some of the local bluefin but as is often the case they proved elusive.   We will be in at Lee Palm sport fishing at 8 tomorrow morning.

Aug. 30, 2014

Aug. 29, 2014

Our labor day weekend 3 day trip has officially begun.  We cleared Point Loma with a nice load of sardines and headed out to start our trip.  After a hurried welcoming/safety/ fishing seminar we started looking for some action.  We eventually found the right school and drifted for about two hours. The grade got better as we drifted along.   It started at about 12 soon it was a steady 18-22 lbs. After a little wide open action everybody was ready for Chapmans ribeye steak dinner.  We are going to be starting first thing in the morning. Wish us luck.

Aug. 25, 2014

Good evening folks.

We had a nice day fishing the Yellowfin.  No real big hits but nice steady fishing throughout the day. The afternoon seemed best as we were able to pick until dark on the same school.  A lot of mid day moving around but the afternoon made up for it.

Tomorrow we move out west. We are hoping to get bait and try for a few bluefin tuna.

Aug. 21, 2014

We had a long day of travel,  moving up the line trying to get in position for the afternoon. The evening paid off with a great sundowner on quality Yellowfin that bit until dark. We are going to fish the Yellowfin tomorrow and try and make the most out of the bait we have.

Aug. 16, 2014

We just finished up our Bob Michener 3 day trip.  We managed to have pretty steady action for the whole 2.5 days of this trip. Today was much the same as yesterday.  We tried for larger fish in the morning and evening and spent the rest of the day patty hopping.   The weather was up a bit today so I made spotting the helps a little more difficult than yesterday,  but the crew found enough to make a nice day of it.  We finished the day up with a nice sundowner for some more tuna.  We are headed home in good spirits.   Our eta is 7-7:30.

Aug. 15, 2014

Today was a busy day of fishing.  We spent our first full day doing some old fashioned patty hopping.  It seemed like the guys with the binoculars,  Matt, Fernando, and Alec, had us running on spots of birds and kelps all day. Oddly enough our best yellowfin stop was a school that was gathered around a big hammer head shark.
Hopefully we can put together another day of action tomorrow.

We left today on our Bob Michener three day special.  The bait barge had some nice medium size sardines for us on the way out.  We started our trip off with a little action, picking up some local Yellowfin tuna.  Going to be in the tuna grounds first thing in the morning.

Good evening folks

A spectacular day of Yellowtail fishing. From 5:30 to9:30 in the morning we had 15 to 18 fish hanging all the time four hours. Nice grade 18 to 30 pounds and really biting. The best I have seen there!

We spent the rest of the day offshore getting Jig strikes throughout the afternoon on small tuna We will be up fishing local tomorrow

July 27, 2014

Good evening folks.

Pretty tough day all in all but we did have one stop where we hooked four and picked off three of these nice 80 to 100 pound fish. Chris , Corey and Bob were the successful anglers with the Jack Pot contenders. We had a couple other drifts but really not much to mention . Tomorrow we will be fishing yellows in Mexican waters . We spent the day up above today and it looks like the rest of the trip will be in Mexico

Andy Cates

July 26, 2014

We had scratch fishing today. Things started with a long slow one at a time drift on Bluefin and a few Yellowfin. We picked thorough out the day and finished with a sundowner on fish from 15 to 35 pounds with one high liner about 70 pounds. Not much sign of the better size fish today but we made a day of it with 70 Bluefin and 18 yellowfin all in US waters

Andy Cates

July 25, 2014

Good evening folks

With the closure of Bluefin tuna in Mexico we are starting our trip above the line in US waters. This is the first of a string of five day trips starting with Bluefin Jim's annual trip.

We found a kelp late that provided action on smaller grade yellowfin and bluefin . We were stoked to be drifting into sunset with 40 mixed tuna and a couple of Dorado. So far this morning just a few bluefin but nice weather.

This 8 day trip we have fished from the 100 mile from San Diego Mark down to the 450 mile mark on the Ridge. We found action on small Yellowfin the first day and yellowtail, Dorado, Wahoo and even a couple of White SeaBass in the following days on the Ridge. All and all good action on Yellows and a chance at Dorado and Wahoo have made for a nice  variety. We are finishing up the trip and be at Cedros for our last day and then home. This concludes our run of great spring 8 day trips and now we will have reports for the coming 4 and 5 day trips

July 8, 2014

Good morning folks

We had about 30 yellows in the dark yesterday and then spent the day offshore looking for kelps. Only one kelp had fish on it and they didn't really bite . We had a few bite offs on wahoo but only landed one up on the shallow in the morning

July 7, 2014

Good evening folks

We started off at Cedros and had a couple slow drifts on the morning. At 9:00 we decided to start heading down and made one more afternoon stop down the beach for 30 yellows. We continued down and will be on the ridge first thing in the morning.

July 6, 2014

Good evening folks

Tough day today with scratch fishing on small grade Yellowfin Tuna. Short stopping with mostly jig strikes and just a few bait fish on various stops. Tomorrow we are going to start out at Cedros and see how the morning goes and take it from there.

We are going to drag our feet and fish offshore and the islands for yellows the first couple of days and then head down as the wind calms down. That is the plan as of now

A nice 35# yellow and a 50# seabass for charter master Mcvey

June 25, 2014

Good evening folks

We had a slow start this morning and found an are of nice size yellows and made a couple of drifts . Fish were caught on the surface iron and yo-yo jig as well as fly line mackerel  We spent the afternoon doing skid trips for bass and then finished off catching more bait. We had a busy schedule today bit squeezed it all in.

Tomorrow we will be offshore trying for tuna

Good morning folks. Yesterday the wind came up and hindered are shot at the kelp paddies. We found a few but nothing holding. Picked up one wahoo on the way up the line and will be at Cedros today

June 23, 2014

We had a great day today. Starting with yellows in the dark biting baits under the lights. Then after daylight we went offshore and found kelps that were holding wahoo and dorado. Ending the day with 27 wahoo and near limits of nice size dorado.

We are going to start offshore in the morning. The folks have plenty of yellowtail and are saving a couple of tags for a trophy at Cedros.

Andy Cates

June 22, 2014

Good evening folks

Today we sat on the anchor in one spot and caught Yellowtail all day. It was a nice pace with 2 to 4 fish on the line all the time. The grade of fish was 18 to 30 pounds. The weather was nice and light winds until evening. We are going to fish yellows until lunch and them head offshore and look for kelps and see what we can find.

June 21, 2014

Good evening folks .

We had a long bait making session this morning. We slowly caught enough Mackerel for the next couple of days. The locals at Cedros helped out by netting up some sardines for later in the trip. We travelled this afternoon and will be on the ridge first thing in the morning.

Andy Cates

June 20, 2014

Good evening folks

We started short this morning at 100 miles. We saw a fair line of fish, but unfortunately they were off the bite. We got a handful of Bluefin and a handful of yellowfin for our efforts. Before lunch we had to start heading south and have been straight lining most of the day. Tomorrow we are going to try for bait and then take it from there. Hopefully we can tank up on mackerel.

Good morning folks.

Our first morning has really not started yet. A little sign of fish in the dark but nothing after daylight .

The start of the Salty Dawg 8 day trip is on . Hopefully we get on the fish soon. Or they come up soon. Either way would be good

Good morning folks.

The last day and a morning was just what the doctor ordered. We finished up at the island with still epic weather and a surprise at a few bigger fish to end the trip on. First morning we had 11 fish from 160 to 250 pounds. It was a one shot deal that lasted from the crack of dawn until just after sunrise .

June 10, 2014

June 9, 2014

Our Accurate sponsored "June Heat" 2014 has started successfully at the Hurricane Bank.

Starting with the first afternoon we found ourselves in beautiful weather that has lasted the entire week. Our biggest concern on the way down and the week prior was the weather . With a sneaker Hurricane that conflicted with trip before ours we were happy to see the forecast so clear.

We spent the first 5 days of the trip catching that classic 100 to 190 pound "Bank Grade" with good strong current and perfect wind for the kite. The first four days were the best and we saw a taper and slow down on the 5th and 6th day. The fishing was a nice pace where we seemed to keep 2 to 4 fish going almost the entire day . On the 5th day it became more spotty and we broke it up by trolling up 50 wahoo in a couple of sessions. Always a nice way to break things up.

As we head into Clarion with an already great catch , we are just hoping to finish off with a shot at a few outstanding fish for the Jack pot.

June 8, 2014

Another nice day today with 26 tuna and 23 Wahoo. Nice tuna again 100 to 190 pounds. Just the one over 200. But great overall grade.

June 7, 2014

Good evening folks

Another nice day at the Bank

Alec Robbie started the morning with a 215 on a small tuna then it was Dave Malone again and Laurens Rhinelander with a close one at 201 in the afternoon We spent some time trolling around today and picked up 24 Wahoo as well. Nice day of fishing in great weather

Nice day at the Bank

June 6, 2014

Another good day from the Hurricane Bank. 44 tuna today from daylight until dark. Same nice grade of fish as yesterday . Laurens Reinlander won the Accurate Jack Pot today with a 202 pound tuna. Accurate and Calstar awarded him with a new 700 m blank. Thanks Accurate and Cal Star By the way the weather is flat out here almost no wind. Really hot!

June 5, 2014

Good evening folks

Our second au of fishing turned out to be a real nice day. The weather was great and we had Classic Hurricane Bank fishing. Nice grade of fish with the bilk of it over 100 pounds and 3 fish over 200 pounds. The Accurate Reels daily jack pot was won by Dave Malone after taking a skiff ride to retrieve a 225 pounder. He won a Boss 500 narrow and was awarded by Leo Risen,  Accurate staff.  Thanks again Accurate Reels . We have more to win this week hopefully more nice size fish.

June 4, 2014

Good evening folks. We had a decent start with a slow pick in the afternoon on decent fish. Leo Risen picked off the fish of the day. 190 pounder on the troll as we rolled in here. The rest of the day saw mostly 80 to 100 pound fish with a few over 100 mixed in. Not a bad start and hoping for an early start tomorrow

Andy Cates

Headed to the Bank as of now and waiting for the next report

March 21, 2014

Good evening folks.

Another day of scratch fishing at the Bank. Today we had a few better grade fish up to 213 pounds. Ralph Hughes was the lucky angler that picked that one off in the morning on the chunk. The kite got some action after daylight and John Aviles and Billy Walsh picked off fish up in the high hundreds close to 200 pounds. The rest of the day was a long lull and then at dark we got a few more fish with Woody Woodrow picking off a nice 160 pounder on 80 pound Izorline.

With most of the fish hooked on the small "soap bar mackerel" due to the fact that sardines are on a shortage at the receivers. The mackerel did seem to work fine but the trusty sardine is always the go to bait.

March 20, 2014

Good evening folks.

We had a long day of scratch ,one ,two at a time fishing.

Mostly the stock grade fish with a few in the hundreds. 37 fish for the day with light wind and blazing heat. Good kite action as well as fly line and they seemed to bite the little mackerel as well. Last day tomorrow and hoping for another good day to end with.

March 20, 2014

Good morning folks.

Yesterday was a slow scratch on stock grade tuna and wahoo ending the day with 25 tuna and 13 wahoo. It was far better than the day before so hopefully things will pick up.

Same conditions this morning and hoping for a showing this afternoon.

So far this morning most of the bites have been on the kite with flyers. Nothing that ever sustained just one at a time on the kite for a dozen fish.

March 18, 2014

Good evening folks.

We took off this morning after a day and a half of poor conditions and very little sign of fish at the Island. It looks like the Bank will have to save our bacon for the next three days.

We were hoping something changed inside but it remains to be very sharky and really not much sign of tuna.

We will be at he Bank early in the morning hoping to salvage after a tough move to the inside. We did manage a few fish and a couple of chances at trophy fish but not enough to stay.

Andy Cates

March 16, 2014

Good evening.

We had one little shot this morning on smaller grade fish with one fish about 170 pounds. We never saw much and caught smaller fish being 60 to 90 pounds until about 9:00. We made a couple moves and looked around for not much and gave it until noon. We took off at lunch and are heading in to try the Island tomorrow . We will be there first thing in the morning and hope to find some better grade fish. Hopefully it has turned around in here and it pays off. If not it will be a scramble. Shown here is Mark Moffat and Alan Babashof with the two decent fish this morning.

Andy Cates

March 15, 2014

We had a nice warm up day today. No big fish out here at the Bank this afternoon but a pretty good starter on 70 to 100 pound fish. We picked off a few flying fish tonight and are ready for the morning. We will see how it goes in the morning hoping that the grade is better in the early morning.

We will report then

Andy Cates

March 14, 2014

Good evening folks.

Tomorrow is the day we arrive at the Bank. Hopefully there are fish waiting for us. It has been a nice ride today and all is well.

It looks like 11:00 in the morning and we will be on the grounds. We will report on our success.

Andy Cates

March 13, 2014

Good evening folks.

We had a nice day of travel and the guys spent most of the day rigging up. We had a seminar this morning on tuna fishing and the way to get rigged up for the Bank.

The weather has been nice all day and the water is warming up We have one more day of travel and then at the Bank late morning as of now.

We will report again tomorrow

March 12, 2014

Good evening folks

We got most of the boat gear rigged up today and a few other odd jobs. The guys finished the day with a dice game that we play called Ace/Duce . Larry couldn't wait and got the party started after lunch. Fernando did the best today so it looks like he will be entertaining tomorrow Seminar on tuna tomorrow and the big Loftus and Oldenkamp raffle!

March 11, 2014

Good evening folks.

We are on our annual Loftus & Martin 15 day ride home trip. Butch Oldenkamp has joined John Loftus and now is part of the Loftus/ Martin sponsor. We picked up bait. A load of about a 50 percent sardine and 50 percent mackerel. We are headed to the Bank right now with great weather.
